Perler Bead Mosaic Paintings

Even a few decades back, people used to consider only paintings and sculptures as pieces of art but as time passed by, people started creating different ideas artistically and made things with stones, sand, metals etc. showing their hidden talent and presenting an example in front of the people by their new way of creating art. Here is one such artist Joel W who has won my heart and I am sure even you will be fascinated with his creativity.

This sign maker is one full-time gig who doesnt work only for money but for his passion too for creating mosaic with perler beads and he is one real perfectionist. Just see his work art, and I bet you won’t disagree with me. Here is one of his many killer masterpieces which have been specially made for Halloween. Just see the concept behind this mosaic, with so many ghosts in the back ground and the pumpkin glowing in the base, the main antagonist of this portrait is the person who is standing in style, with a round pumpkin type head.

Not only this one but there many more creations like my favorite antagonist ever, THE JOKER from dark knight. This killer one has really won my heart as I think that nothing would be able to express his true character except for heath ledger but in this mosaic, he has done a tremendous job.

Here is another one which resembles some one’s eyes and I assume this is the eyes of the artist himself, was his first bead mosaic which he had made using a photographic reference. Hats of to you Joel W and your creation, please keep doing these excellent art.

You can also look to Transformer acrylic art or even you can see Cute little Pacman crew as an example of little different art. But for other amazing beaded art, you should definitely check out the Mike Tyson’s Punchout Characters version.

Controlling the crowd, annoying your teachers, friends or want some boring party to end that instance are a few things where Sound Grenade is the best remedy which comes in handy and does its work within 15 – 30 seconds.

Image

If the crowd is bigger then just plug in your iPhone classic or iPhone 3G into a speaker turned on to full volume and if you are at some dinner party which is boring you to death, then the devices inbuilt speaker is enough for the people to run away from there; No one will ever come to know that it was your iPhone which was emitting the 16Khz (approximately) sound.

It took only 30 minutes for the kiwi duo under the pseudonym of “High Gloss” to finish every thing, from naming to completion which included graphics of the Sound Grenade and in return, within five days of time the Sound Grenade got the recognition of being the world’s most annoying application and in less then two weeks, there were over 1.25 million downloads. This grenade is different from a normal one as it destroys the person’s eardrum and can irritate them to the core making them get out of there and the best thing is, no one will be able to know that the sound was coming from your phone. A great thing for pranksters but becareful, if you get caught then may God be with you.

The brain is a complex organ responsible for controlling, monitoring and regulating many functions and actions. While much is understood about the brain, many questions still remain, with animal brains sometimes serving as a forum to explore various mysteries. From tiny insects detailing the importance of brain size to genetically-altered mice helping researchers better understand Alzheimer’s disease to sea lions examining the relationship between toxic exposure and brain damage, these and other animals have recently provided some compelling insights on the inner workings of the brain.

Does Brain Size Matter? Not for Some Tiny Insects

The age-old question of whether bigger brains are necessarily better has been recently explored in studies of tiny insect brains that demonstrated impressive abilities to perform complex tasks. Despite having brains that were only the size of pinheads, some insects were able to count, categorize objects and even recognize human faces, causing some researchers to propose that complex communication between brain cells, rather than brain size, is more important. Since it is easier to study such cell communication in smaller brains rather than larger brains, scientists are excited about what future research on insect brains may suggest about cell communication and understanding more about the human brain.

Not Your Average Street Rat: Hobbie-J, the Super Smart Rat

Speaking of brain cell communication, researchers have created the world’s smartest rat by altering a single gene during the embryonic stage. Named Hobbie-J, this rat can retain memory three times longer than other rats and easily perform complex tasks like moving through mazes with few clues. The reason? Scientists injected Hobbie-J with a chemical that caused an overexpression of the NR2B gene, which helps control brain cell communication. With her brain cells able to communicate just a second longer, Hobbie-J has shown herself to be quite smarter than ordinary rats. According to researchers, targeting NR2B may help resolve brain disorders like dementia and Alzheimer’s, although there are some important considerations to keep in mind. Since embryonic modification is a very controversial topic, scientists would have to create a drug that targeted NR2B. Also, having the ability to retain so many memories could be detrimental to superbly smart people, with the possibility that they could struggle to forget bad memories and move forward with their lives.

Gloriously hued and ephemeral in nature, rainbows are one of the most beautiful sights the skies have to offer. They come in a wide variety of shapes, styles, sizes and yes, even colors. These ten amazing arcs show what happens when Mother Nature gets out her paintbox.

Classic Rainbows

Most everyone has seen a classic, garden-variety rainbow – sometimes in their gardens while watering their plants with a misting spray.

Natural rainbows are made up of 6 colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet. The intensity of each color may vary due to atmospheric conditions and the time of day (more on that later).

Circular Rainbows

The rainbows most of see are actually arcs of perfect circles (with radii of exactly 42 degrees, according to Descartes), though viewing a complete rainbow is difficult as the ground has a habit of getting in the way.

The advent of powered flight and aerial photography has enabled the magnificence of circular rainbows to be revealed to an awestruck public. Of course, if an airplane isn’t available a really high mountain will do.

Best of Yanko Design 2009

The year 2009 can be marked as one of the most defining years for Yanko Design and its community. The year can be re-capped with the Best of 2009, but on the same note its important to iterate our accomplishments. When the world was facing its worst global recession in decades, (including the design industry as a whole), YD on its part grew its outlook by innovating to stay ahead of the game. For a moment you can actually say that Innovation has been the theme symbolic to YD and this year’s best designs!

I am equally proud of every member in the YD family. The team took initiatives and spearheaded projects that added value in every sense of the word. The Job Board has proven to be more effective in landing positions v/s recruitment and agencies. The YD Store made business sense to us but it made a stronger statement for the individual designers. It gave them freedom to focus on creativity, while YD Store took care of bringing those products to the design advocates. The equation is perfect; the designers get to do what theyre passionate about, while YD realizes their inspirations.

With our readers ranging from the creative industry (industrial, graphics design, interior, fashion design, ect) to the traditional industry (info tech, finance, entertainment, marketing, manufacturing, ect), we can proudly say that we have one of the most vocal communities where voices are heard. The innovations that you see on YD are all a result of those suggestions. This includes the interviews, reviews & Podcasts .

To sum it up, weve had a pretty innovative year, and we hope next year will be bigger, better and brighter for all of us!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Less is More: 18 Clever Logos Using Negative Space

What makes a logo really pop? Clever use of negative space. Using whitespace as an active part of the design doesnt just create visual harmonyit can also produce optical illusions that elevate this vital element of brand identity from forgettable to iconic. Adept incorporation of negative space into a logo helps designers make the maximum visual impact with the simplest elements possible.

Egg-n-Spoon

At first glance, this e isnt all that interesting. But consider that the logo was created for a courier service called Egg-in-Spoonwith the tagline, Sameday CouriersSpeed with Careand take another look. The reader comments on the design firms blog enhance the fun: i hope no-one poaches it… We were thinking eggs-actly the same thing… :) Did you have to scramble around for that idea?

The Brand Union

Typography design based entirely on negative space can get messy fast, but somehow this design for The Brand Union works. Careful color choice and editing of the negative space in this logo helps the words stand out, so it doesnt look like a confusing jumble of shapes.

Truce

(image via: TurnerDuckworth.com)

Its somewhere in between an excellent use of negative space and an ambigramusing a font to spell the word truce that fits within itself when flipped upside-down. Designed by Turner Duckworth, who have also worked with Coca-Cola and Amazon.com.

Bermuda Aquarium

Its just a concept, developed by Schuster for the Bermuda Aquarium, but perhaps they should consider a change. This design is considerably sleeker, more modern and far more eye-catching than the one theyre currently using. Exceedingly simple shapes are all thats needed to convey an image of fish swimming side-by-side.

Café Melody

Designed by Jure Klaric for a lounge bar in Croatia, this logo gets more effective the longer you look at it. Not only do the two simple shapes make a somewhat stylized C for café, they also form a coffee cup on a saucer as seen from aboveand the shape of a volume button.

The Story Behind 3D Computer Model of Newell Teapot

You might have seen 3D models of many household things but heres something that may catch your fancy and could be something many would love to own.

This 3D computer model of Newell teapot, also called the Utah teapot, was produced way back in 1975 by Martin Newell, one of the early computer graphics researchers. Martin was also a member of the revolutionary graphics program at the University ofUtah.

The Newell teapot is a mathematical model of an ordinary teapot having a simple shape, which appears cylindrical, solid and partially convex. The creation of this 3D model dates back to 1975 when Newell required a fairly simple mathematical model of a common object for his work. As they were about to sip tea at that time, his wife Sandra Newell suggested using their teapot as a model. Newell liked the idea, and sketched the entire teapot on some graph paper, which he later edited in his lab to come up with the digitized version.

Once Newell compiled the mathematical data to describe the geometry of the teapot (using a set of three-dimensional coordinates) and made it publicly available, other researchers too began to utilize the same statistics for their computer graphics experiments.

Though with the advent of technology, rendering the digitized version of the teapot is no longer a daunting task as it was in 1975, the teapot has stayed to become a standard reference object for advanced graphics techniques.

For additional 3 D versions of familiar imagery, check out the 3D Space Invaders Shirt or the 3D Tetris Chair.
