With the advancement of technology, digital world is opening up new paths every other day starting from micro and mini chips to smallest integrated circuits. With the decreasing size of the circuits, the devices are also taking their tiniest possible shapes every other day. Similar is the case with the Marvell Plug Computer 3.0, I guess.

The Marvells latest Plug Computer 3.0 is probably one of the tiniest PC you have ever seen. This tiny PC is featured with an in-built 1.8-inch hard disk drive of unspecified capacity, a faster CPU, an integrated Bluetooth, WiFi and also an USB port. The device can be easily connected to an external hard drive or a printer too. And the biggest thing in this tiny device is that it uses only one tenth of the power as compared to a regular PC, which is no doubt a great feature.

Powered by Armada 300 processor, the Plug Computer 3.0 in no way is weaker than any regular computer and comes with Linux 2.6. This tiny, yet high performing PC will be sold as a part of a developer kit at the first shot, with an introductory price of $99 only. The official release of Marvells Plug Computer 3.0 is highly awaited, for it is expected to open up new paths and applications in the fields of Home Automation, Medical Monitoring, Agriculture, Security and Access Control and many more. For more such PC collections, check out with the Pico Bayard Mini Computer and the World’s Smallest PC In The Space Cube.

Growing Up: 3 DIY Vertical Gardening Solutions

Vertical farming is a big deal, and as urban centers become more and more populous there’s a good chance we’ll finally start seeing some of those large-scale vertical farm projects being built. Until then, though, Inka Biospheric Systems has a few smaller-scale solutions for vertical gardening at home. These pre-made vertical gardens are perfect for people who have always wanted to grow their own food but are short on space.

The Inka Sun Curve

The Inka Sun Curve is the most elaborate of Inka’s vertical garden products. It’s a self-standing, closed-loop “micro-farm” that combines a vegetable/herb garden, fish farm, wind turbines and solar panels to provide produce, protein and fresh water. The fish tank at the bottom provides nutrients to the plants above, which in turn filter and clean the water for the fish. The solar panel at the top runs the pump for the fish tank, and the attached battery can also provide enough power for a cell phone or laptop. The whole system uses only about 10% of the water required for traditional farming. The vertical garden isn’t 100% closed-loop, though, since you still have to feed the fish. But for a garden that can provide such a large part of your diet, it seems a small think to ask.

The Inka Stretch Garden

For a slightly less complex (but still fabulously functional) vertical garden, Inka offers the Stretch Garden, meant to be installed on an existing wall or fence. It can be up to 30 feet high and there’s no limit to how long it can be, so in theory the entire exterior of your home could be covered in live, growing food. The hydroponic garden system can grow pretty much any type of plant except root vegetables, and a heat pad is available to extend the growing season. The company advises against greenhouse growing, but picture a greenhouse filled with rows of these wall gardens – an exceptional amount of fresh food could be grown in a fraction of the space required for traditional gardening methods.

The Inka Wall Garden

And finally, for those on a limited budget who want to experience vertical farming at home, the Inka Wall Garden lets you get started right away. It can be either free-standing or attached to an exterior wall. For $300, it may be one of the more expensive gardening solutions out there, but it does come with everything you need to start your hydroponic garden other than seedlings. And when compared to the price of fresh vegetables over a couple of growing seasons it should pay for itself quickly. Besides the food-growing capacity of the Wall Garden, it’s got a lot of outdoor decorating potential. Some of the applications are not only sustainable and eco-friendly, but absolutely gorgeous as well.

The Capsule Collection from Deadgood

British designers Dan Ziglam and Elliot Brook have created the Capsule Collection of seating for their furniture brand Deadgood.

This fully upholstered collection of seating utilises off cuts of fabric to create a graduated run of colour tones and textures that cover an arrangement of irregular sized buttons. The forms themselves are derived from a simple three-dimensional capsule shape which creates a comfortable and engaging seating range, suitable for either commercial or domestic applications, with a tongue in cheek reference to the solar system and 60’s space age adventure.

Cozy Tetris iPhone Pouch is Yet Another Creative iPhone Sleeve

I wonder how iPhone still manages to keep the ball rolling for design buffs, as day after day, I come across applications and new apparel for Apple’s one hyper-hyped creation…the iPhone.

EgoorEngland is up with another Cozy iPhone Pouch with cute little Tetris blocks gracing on the front. The makers previously churned out the Pacman iPhone Pouch and are probably signalling its love for retro games.

The pouch is cut out of strong thick durable felt to afford sturdy protection to your Apple valuables namely iPhone and iPod Touch. With extra-engineered gadgets fragility comes as a tax thereby making users paranoid about it. So this pouch takes the baton of protecting your baby against dust, careless handling and even hideous scratches. The colorful Tetris blocks are hand-stitched to make it look less mechanical and garner appreciating stares from people around.

You can buy one from Etsy for $20 which is not much, considering the effort that goes in making this pouch. If Tetris has rescued you from boredom, I am sure you would fall for concepts and products graced with this game design. There is the Gingerbread Pacman and Tetris Game, a food concept that beautifully teams up two retro games; and the Tetris Hair Cut Design, a bold display of one’s obsession for the game.

The Cocaine Scale Disguised as an iPhone Would Make Steve Jobs Freak Out

Image

Now we all know about how many different possibilities the iPhone grants with games and applications, but I never thought the iPhone would turn into crime and be the disguise for a cocaine scale.

Found in Netherlands, this Cocaine scale was probably designed by a geek with additional motives besides modding, Internet and video games. It is a digital scale that is slim enough to fit as an iPhone would in your pocket, bag or jacket. Moreover, when it arrives, it looks just like an iPhone would when turned on, showing the different applications available on the home screen.

For those in need of a Cocaine Scale, all they have to do is remove the iPhone case top to reveal the miniature scale. Now, I guess it doesn’t HAVE to be used for criminal intent and could be used as a Chef’s kitchen scale as well, for miniature amounts.

On second thought, maybe someone has truly designed this iPhone scale as a Kitchen Gadget, and a non-geek turned it into Drug product. Whatever the actual reason…such images would really make Steve Jobs lose his marbles.
